Latvia Ends Property-Based Golden Visas, Considers Tightly Regulated Route for NATO Citizens
Latvia has officially ended its property-based golden visa program with the implementation of a new Immigration Law. Foreign investors can no longer gain residency by purchasing real estate or making subordinated bank deposits. While a new €150,000 fund route was introduced, the required state fund is not yet established, and five lawmakers from the Progressives party are seeking to abolish this option before it becomes operational. President Edgars Rinkēvičs had initially returned the law to lawmakers, questioning the verification of funds for the proposed fund route and suggesting a tightly regulated property route specifically for citizens of NATO, OECD, and EEA countries, and potentially other friendly states. However, Parliament passed the law again without reinstating the general property route. Investment in Latvian company share capital remains an available option for residency.
