Federal Judge Scrutinizes Grand Jury Proceedings in Don Lemon Indictment
A federal judge is conducting an in-depth review of the grand jury proceedings that led to criminal charges against journalist Don Lemon. This scrutiny raises the possibility that the case could be dismissed. Lemon and independent journalist Georgia Fort were indicted after covering an anti-ICE protest inside Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, on January 18. Prosecutors charged Lemon with conspiring to violate constitutional rights and violating the FACE Act, which prohibits interference with religious freedom. Lemon has pleaded not guilty, asserting he was reporting on the demonstration, not participating. His attorneys have sought grand jury records for months, citing potential irregularities and arguing that multiple judges previously found no probable cause to charge him. They also accused a federal agent of falsely claiming the journalists participated in chanting.
