Winter Weather Advisory and Extreme Cold Watch for Upstate New York
A winter weather advisory has been issued for much of western and central New York, with expectations of widespread snow and lake-effect snow from Friday through Saturday night. According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, areas such as Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties will experience snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, with higher totals possible on hilltops south of Buffalo. Wind gusts up to 40 mph may lead to blowing and drifting snow. Additionally, an extreme cold watch is in effect, with wind chills potentially dropping as low as 25 below zero from late Friday night through Sunday morning across several counties.
