Aurora University Museum Unveils New Illinois Art Exhibition Focusing on Empathy and Underrepresented Histories
A new art exhibition titled 'Here, There: New Perspectives from the Illinois State Museum Collection' has opened at the Schingoethe Center Museum at Aurora University. The traveling exhibit, which will be on display until December 11, features works from over 30 Illinois artists, including notable figures such as Eldzier Cortor, Theaster Gates, and Miyoko Ito. The collection spans various time periods and artistic movements, exploring common themes of struggle, exploration, perseverance, and empathy. According to Zachary Bishop, registrar and museum manager, the exhibition aims to highlight underrepresented histories and stories, fostering a deeper understanding of diverse experiences within Illinois. This exhibit is a result of a long-term partnership with the Illinois State Museum and is the third location to host this particular collection.
