Strides for Peace Hosts National Gun Violence Prevention Expo in Chicago
Strides for Peace is currently hosting its fourth annual Gun Violence Prevention Expo in Chicago, marking the first time the event has been held as a national gathering. The expo, themed "Prosperity Through Collaboration," aims to unite youth, community members, and violence prevention advocates to address gun violence and strengthen neighborhoods. The event features community-based organizations, violence intervention leaders, civic and public advocates, and healthcare professionals from across the country. Participants are sharing personal stories and artistic expressions related to the impact of violence, including an installation titled "A Silent March" by Lawanda Hawkins, a relative of a slain Chicago police officer. The expo seeks to foster collaboration and move from "friction to inspiration" in the effort to reduce violence.
