Columbia College Launches Neurodiversity Alliance to Support Neurodivergent Students
Columbia College is set to introduce a new student organization, the Neurodiversity Alliance, aimed at supporting neurodivergent students. This initiative, a chapter of a national nonprofit, will provide students with networking opportunities, professional development resources, and access to scholarships, grants, and mentorship programs. The alliance is designed to empower students by offering them new experiences and professionalization opportunities. The idea was proposed by Ames Hawkins, the interim director of the School of Communication and Culture, after attending a conference where the national organization was featured. The alliance will focus on building a community for neurodiverse students and their allies, providing a platform for them to connect and redefine expectations and biases about neurodiverse individuals.
