This move comes as state and local IT leaders face tight budgets, an urgent need to integrate AI, and ongoing cybersecurity concerns. The shift from on-premises systems to cloud-based solutions is reshaping IT organizations, necessitating new skills and certifications. Markell Storay, CIO of Charlotte, emphasized the importance of upskilling staff in programming languages like Python and AI to support the city's technological advancements. The city is also hiring individuals with AI experience to address governance and cybersecurity challenges associated with AI integration.
