United Airlines Clarifies Policy Amid Trump Airport Renaming Confusion
United Airlines has addressed confusion regarding its ticket change policy following the renaming of Palm Beach International Airport to President Donald J. Trump International Airport. Reports suggested that United would allow passengers to switch flights to other Florida airports without charge if they objected to the new airport name. This followed an internal memo indicating that reservation agents could offer alternatives like Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport or Miami International Airport. However, United clarified that the memo was poorly worded and inaccurate, stating that their policy does not permit changes based on an airport's name. The airport's name change, effective last week, will see its code change from PBI to DJT on August 18. Despite assurances that operations remain unchanged, the renaming has sparked social media backlash, with some travelers vowing to avoid the airport.
