Former Royal Butler Defends King Charles Against Allegations in Charles Spencer's Memoir
Paul Burrell, Princess Diana’s former butler, has publicly defended King Charles III against claims made by Charles Spencer, Diana's brother, in his recent memoir, 'Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.' Burrell appeared on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored program to challenge Spencer's portrayal of King Charles following Diana's death in August 1997. Spencer's memoir reportedly alleges that King Charles was 'giddy with excitement' upon learning of Diana's passing. However, Burrell, who was present in Paris at the time, described King Charles as 'a broken man' and 'devastated,' stating he was pale and had clearly been crying after spending time with Diana's family. Burrell also criticized the memoir's focus, suggesting it was 'more about Earl Spencer than it is about his sister Diana' and contained a 'rather spiteful revengeful point of view.' He further questioned Spencer's involvement in Diana's life during her final years, claiming their relationship was 'fractured' and Spencer had limited knowledge of that period.
