AI-Powered App Boosts Marriages in Japan Amid Declining Birth Rates
An AI-powered dating app, launched by the Tokyo government in 2024, has facilitated the marriages of 265 couples, according to official data. The app, named TOKYO Enmusubi, was introduced to address Japan's declining birth rates by encouraging marriage among singles. The app requires users to prove their single status and pass an online interview to ensure genuine interest in marriage. As of June 2026, the app had 16,000 registered members, with 760 couples in serious relationships. The initiative comes in response to a survey indicating that 70% of individuals interested in marriage were not actively seeking partners. The app's AI technology assesses compatibility in three stages, providing users with confidence in meeting potential partners.
