Remains of Missing Lab Worker Melissa Casias Found in New Mexico National Forest
The remains of Melissa Casias, a lab worker at Los Alamos National Laboratory who disappeared last year, have been discovered in the Carson National Forest in New Mexico. The discovery was made by a hiker in the McGaffey Ridge area, near Taos, where Casias was from. A handgun was found near her remains, but the cause and manner of her death are still under investigation by the medical examiner's office. Casias was reported missing on June 26, 2025, after failing to return home or show up for work. Her disappearance is part of a larger investigation led by the FBI into missing or deceased scientists and staff from sensitive nuclear or space technology labs.
