Study Links Midlife Health Habits to Extended Dementia-Free Years
A new study published in Neurology Open Access has found that maintaining normal blood pressure, being diabetes-free, and not smoking during midlife can lead to 13 more years without dementia. The study analyzed data from over 12,000 participants, tracking them for an average of 26 years. Participants who met these health criteria in middle age lived significantly longer without developing dementia compared to those who smoked, had high blood pressure, or diabetes. The research highlights the importance of managing vascular risk factors to prevent dementia.
