Trump's Endorsed Candidate in Michigan Loses to Rival Who Quit Campaign
In a surprising turn of events, President Donald Trump's endorsed candidate, Amir Hassan, lost the Michigan 8th District primary to Thomas J. Smith, who had previously suspended his campaign. Despite receiving Trump's endorsement, Hassan was defeated by Smith, who garnered 50.4% of the vote compared to Hassan's 33.2%. Smith had initially withdrawn from the race to support another candidate, Al Lemmo, who received 16.4% of the vote. This marks the first time a Trump-endorsed candidate has lost a congressional primary at the ballot box. The outcome is part of a series of upsets in state races, with other Trump-backed candidates facing challenges.
