U.S. Navy Declines Governor Healey's Request for Assistance in Lily Jean Investigation
The U.S. Navy has denied Governor Maura Healey's request for assistance in investigating the sinking of the fishing vessel Lily Jean off the coast of Gloucester, Massachusetts. The vessel sank in January, resulting in the deaths of seven people, including the captain and crew members. Governor Healey had sought the Navy's expertise in retrieving video equipment from the wreckage to understand the cause of the sinking and ensure future safety. The Navy's response, citing an inability to assist, has left the investigation to the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board.
