IRS Launches Document Upload Tool for Secure Taxpayer Communication
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has introduced a new Document Upload Tool, designed to provide a secure, easy, and fast method for taxpayers to send information to the agency. This tool allows individuals and businesses to upload scans, photos, or digital copies of documents in JPG, PNG, or PDF formats. Its primary function is to enable taxpayers to respond to IRS notices or letters, or to request alternative media transcriptions of these communications. The tool ensures that users receive confirmation once their documents have been successfully received by the IRS. To use the tool, taxpayers need an access code (if provided) or the notice/letter number, along with the first and last name or business name on the notice/letter, and their Social Security, individual taxpayer identification, or employer identification number. The IRS explicitly states that tax returns should not be submitted through this tool, as they cannot be processed via this method.
