Michelle O'Neill Volleyball Tournament Celebrates 30th Year, Raises Funds for Children with Cancer and Special Needs
The 30th annual Michelle O'Neill Volleyball Tournament took place in Long Beach, drawing over 3,000 participants across more than 500 teams. The event, organized by the nonprofit Michelle O'Neill Foundation, serves as a fundraiser for children battling cancer and those with special needs. Michelle O'Neill, who passed away at age 24 from a brain tumor diagnosed at 17, is the inspiration behind the tournament. Her family transformed their personal tragedy into a movement, which has grown significantly over three decades. Funds are generated through tournament entry fees, merchandise sales, food vendors, and other avenues. Last year, the event successfully raised approximately $250,000. The tournament provides financial assistance and a supportive community for families facing similar challenges, as highlighted by participants like Michael Graham, whose son Cooper battles retinoblastoma, and Danny Marquino, a brain cancer survivor who has attended the event since childhood.
