Powerball Winner Edwin Castro Invests in Rebuilding Fire-Ravaged Altadena
Edwin Castro, who won a $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot in 2022, has purchased 15 fire-damaged lots in Altadena, California, for approximately $10 million. His plan is to build single-family homes for owner-occupants, not rental investors. Castro's initiative is part of a broader effort to rebuild the community after the devastating January Eaton Fire, which destroyed thousands of homes. Castro, through his real estate company Black Lion Properties LLC, is the second-largest investor in the area. He has also donated three properties to the Greenline Housing Foundation, supporting affordable housing initiatives. Community reactions to these investments have been mixed, with some residents initially suspicious of outside investors.
