Over 95% of Minnesota Now Experiencing Drought Conditions
Drought conditions have significantly worsened across Minnesota, with over 95% of the state now experiencing some level of drought, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor released on July 30, 2026. This marks an increase from 87% reported the previous week. Northern Minnesota is facing severe drought, while the Twin Cities metro area has transitioned from dry to moderate drought conditions. The hot and dry weather has also exacerbated wildfires in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Superior National Forest. Statewide, over 75% of Minnesota is experiencing at least moderate drought, reflecting a broader trend as half of the continental U.S. faces similar conditions.
