El Chapo Offered Sinaloa Cartel Information to Mexican Government for Sons' Rescue
Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, the notorious drug lord, offered to provide intelligence on the operations of the Sinaloa Cartel to the Mexican government. This offer was made in exchange for assistance in rescuing his sons, Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán, who were kidnapped by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in August 2016. Renato Sales Heredia, former national security commissioner during the administration of Enrique Peña Nieto, revealed this information in an interview. Guzmán, described as 'extremely distressed' by the kidnapping, sought to convey his willingness to cooperate to the Secretary of the Interior and President Peña Nieto. The kidnapping occurred while Iván Archivaldo was celebrating his birthday at a restaurant in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, when an armed group abducted him, his brother, and four companions.
