Kentucky Lawmakers Hold Listening Session on Data Center Growth Concerns
Kentucky lawmakers recently held a listening session to address public concerns regarding the rapid growth of data centers across the state. During the session, numerous residents voiced worries about the potential negative impacts of these facilities, primarily focusing on higher utility bills and environmental pollution. State Rep. Adam Moore, D-Lexington, indicated that the session was organized to allow legislators to hear directly from their constituents. While most speakers expressed opposition or concern, one individual, Martin Rivers of Lexington, spoke in favor of data centers, comparing them to other large-scale manufacturing operations like Ford and Toyota. State Rep. Adrielle Camuel, D-Lexington, noted that a common sentiment among residents was the desire to have their voices heard and feel represented. Lawmakers stated they would consider the public input as they work on legislation to regulate data centers and manage their expansion in Kentucky.
