The Lyons Fire Department has issued a warning regarding the dangers of lithium-ion batteries after a small fire was discovered in a closed commercial business in Lyons. Firefighters responded late Sunday evening after a cleaning crew reported smelling smoke. Initially, crews suspected an electrical issue and disconnected a fluorescent light fixture that was unusually hot. However, on Monday morning, maintenance staff found light ash under a desk and further investigation revealed a lithium battery charging pack inside a desk drawer had experienced thermal runaway.
