Cosmetology Institute of Las Vegas Closes Amid Legal Battle, Leaving Students in Limbo
The Cosmetology Institute of Las Vegas has closed its doors after 11 years, following a costly legal battle with the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology. The closure affects 122 students and eight employees, many of whom are working adults who relied on the school's flexible hours and affordable tuition. The school's owner, Denise Dixon, cited mounting debt from legal proceedings as the reason for the closure. The issues began when students reported difficulties in taking state board exams, leading to the school being placed on probation. Dixon is now working with the state board to transfer students to other institutions and handle refunds on a case-by-case basis.
