Maryland Agencies Excel in Social Equity Programs but Lack Statewide Coordination
Maryland state agencies have been recognized for their individual efforts in offering social equity programs, according to a report by the newly established Department of Social and Economic Mobility (DoSEM). The report, released on July 1, highlights that while these agencies are effective in their initiatives, there is a lack of statewide coordination to enhance the overall impact. The report suggests the creation of a central office to oversee equity programs across state agencies and recommends that a representative from DoSEM be included in all state boards and commissions to advance social and economic mobility. The department, formed in October, aims to align and evaluate these initiatives across the state, despite federal pushback against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts.
