Philadelphia Sees Shrinking Apartment Sizes Amid High Demand for Single-Person Housing
A new report from RentCafe indicates that the average apartment size in Philadelphia is shrinking, placing the city 12th among 100 U.S. cities for the smallest new apartments. Units built in Philadelphia over the last decade average 747 square feet, which is 163 square feet less than the national average. While new three-bedroom apartments saw an increase of 93 square feet, studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units have decreased by approximately 100 square feet compared to the previous decade. This trend is primarily attributed to the high demand for single-person housing in the city, as noted by platform analysts. The report highlights a significant shift in the housing market, catering to a growing demographic seeking smaller living spaces.
