Italy's Coast Guard Recovers 10 Bodies from Capsized Migrant Boat Near Malta
Italy's coast guard has recovered the bodies of 10 individuals after a migrant boat capsized near Malta. The incident involved a craft that had departed from Libya with approximately 60 people on board. A fishing vessel managed to rescue 48 migrants from the water. The Italian coast guard, part of the country's navy, was dispatched to the area at the request of Maltese authorities to assist in the search and rescue operation. The Libyan coast remains a significant departure point for migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe, often in small and perilous boats. This route has seen thousands of deaths over the years. The European Union has been working with the Libyan government to reduce the flow of migrants, providing financial support to bolster border management.
