Severe Weather Drives Rising Home Insurance Costs in the U.S.
A recent LendingTree report highlights that in 15 U.S. states, home insurance costs now exceed property taxes, with insurance accounting for nearly a fifth of monthly housing expenses in some areas. States like Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas are particularly affected due to severe weather risks such as wind, hail, hurricanes, and wildfires. Nebraska leads with home insurance costs representing 19.4% of monthly housing expenses, followed by Oklahoma at 17.6%. Conversely, states like Vermont and Hawaii have the lowest insurance costs, with insurance accounting for just 2.1% to 3.2% of monthly housing budgets. The report underscores the growing influence of climate risks on insurance rates and the challenges homeowners face in managing these rising costs.
