California State Fair Moves to Fall Starting 2027 to Avoid Summer Heat
The California State Fair, a long-standing summer tradition in Sacramento, is set to move to the fall starting in 2027. This decision comes after years of hosting the event during the peak of summer, which often brought extreme heat. According to fair spokesperson Darla Givens, two years ago, 11 out of the 17 days of the fair experienced triple-digit temperatures. This year, one day has already reached triple digits, with two more such days forecasted over the weekend. The new schedule will see the fair running from September 17 to October 3, a period that historically experiences cooler weather. A survey conducted by Cal Expo revealed that 69% of respondents supported the move to avoid the sweltering summer heat. The 2026 fair, marking the last summer edition, concludes this weekend with performances by War and Yacht Rock Revue.
