Hong Kong Lawmaker Warns of Expanding Crypto Scam Impacting Over 1,000 Victims
A crypto scam involving a coffee investment venture, Fun Coffee, based in Vietnam, has reportedly affected over 1,000 victims, according to a Hong Kong lawmaker. The scam has resulted in total reported losses of HK$104 million, with 225 complaints filed since last month. The operation, which claimed to offer investment opportunities in a US dollar-pegged cryptocurrency, USDT, has led to significant financial losses for investors. Six individuals, including a man and five women aged 51 to 64, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud but have been released on bail. The scam was promoted through short promotional videos, misleading investors about potential returns. Police have seized cash, bank cards, mobile phones, and promotional materials during raids on the company's premises.
