Mexican National Pleads Guilty to Impersonating Border Patrol Agent in California
Jaime Ernesto Alvarez-Gonzalez, a 53-year-old undocumented Mexican citizen, has pleaded guilty in federal court to impersonating a U.S. Border Patrol agent. The incident occurred in Southern California, where Alvarez-Gonzalez followed immigration officers to disrupt deportation operations. He admitted to one count of impersonating a federal agent and three counts of illegal firearm possession. Alvarez-Gonzalez, who overstayed his tourist visa decades ago, faces a potential sentence of up to 18 years in prison and fines totaling $500,000. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California reported that Alvarez-Gonzalez used a vehicle resembling those used by undercover agents and was dressed similarly to a Border Patrol agent. His actions included following a Border Patrol agent in San Diego, leading to a confrontation with federal agents.
