Search Continues for Missing Crew After Typhoon Overturns Ship Near Saipan
An overturned ship, identified as the cargo vessel Mariana, was discovered near Saipan following the impact of Typhoon Sinlaku. The U.S. Coast Guard reported that the ship went missing with six crew members on board. The vessel was found overturned, and debris, including a partially inflated life raft, was located 95 nautical miles northeast of the ship. The U.S. Air Force 31st Rescue Squadron confirmed the ship's identity, and search efforts are ongoing. The Mariana, a 145-foot dry cargo vessel, experienced engine failure as the typhoon approached, leading to the loss of communication with the crew. The Coast Guard, along with agencies from Guam, Japan, and New Zealand, has covered over 75,000 square nautical miles in search efforts.
