Lafayette Couple Discovers Historic Letters and Artifacts During Home Renovation
A couple in Lafayette, Colorado, Lauren Kelley and her husband, undertaking renovations on their 1920s-era home in Old Town, have unearthed a collection of historical items, most notably a trove of letters. After moving into the East Chester Street house in 2021, they began renovations, first finding newspapers from as early as 1894 beneath the floors. As they dismantled the walls, layer by layer, they discovered various relics including grocery receipts, candy boxes, old cigarettes, and a significant number of letters, primarily signed by 'Virginia Garcia.' Through online research, Kelley identified Virginia as one of 12 children of Stella and Dan Garcia, former owners of the home, with many letters dating back to the early 1940s.
