Americans for Equal Opportunity Challenges Biglaw Diversity Pipeline with EEOC Charge
Americans for Equal Opportunity (AEO), led by board president Clegg Ivey, has filed a new charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) and 14 law firms. The charge alleges that SEO's Law Fellowship program discriminates based on race, color, national origin, religion, and sexual orientation. This follows a previous charge in May 2025, which led 17 of 44 sponsor firms to withdraw from the program. AEO claims that SEO's practices are racially discriminatory, despite SEO's efforts to rebrand its language to avoid explicit racial preferences. The charge is part of a broader trend where diversity initiatives in Biglaw face increasing scrutiny and rollback.
