Wildfires Rage Across Georgia and Florida Amid Extreme Drought
Wildfires are currently affecting southern Georgia and northeast Florida, driven by extreme drought conditions. According to USA Today, these fires have led to road closures and the destruction of homes and buildings. In Georgia, the state's Forestry Commission has reported that more than half of the state's counties are under burn bans, marking the first time such a ban has been issued. Similarly, over 40 counties in Florida are also under burn bans. The Georgia Forestry Commission noted that 98% of the state's land is experiencing moderate to exceptional drought, contributing to the increased wildfire activity. In Florida, 135 wildfires are burning across nearly 21,000 acres, with significant impacts on local infrastructure.
