IndiGo Ends ACMI Contract with Norse Atlantic Airways, Shifts Focus to Airbus Fleet
IndiGo, a major Indian low-cost airline, has announced the termination of its ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance) contract with Norse Atlantic Airways, effective November 1, 2026. This contract involved the leasing of six Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which were intended to support long-haul operations between India, the UK, and continental Europe. The decision to end the contract is described as mutual, influenced by ongoing geopolitical challenges, rising fuel costs, and airspace restrictions in the Middle East, which have impacted the commercial viability of these operations. As a result, IndiGo will phase out the Boeing 787-9 from its fleet and focus on expanding its long-haul network using Airbus A321XLR and A350-900 aircraft.
