Las Vegas Startup WAVR Technologies Develops Air-to-Water Technology
WAVR Technologies, a Las Vegas-based startup, is commercializing atmospheric water harvesting systems capable of extracting water from the air, even in desert environments with humidity as low as 10%. The technology is inspired by the Australian tree frog, which absorbs moisture through its skin. WAVR co-founder and CEO Rich Sloan explained that they have developed a synthetic version of this frog skin. The company, which spun out of UNLV, was co-founded by Sloan, Dr. Yiwei Gao (CTO), and Dr. Jeremy Cho. Initially, the device produced only a few milliliters of water daily, but it now yields up to 20 liters per unit per day. Sloan projects that by the end of 2027, each unit could produce 10,000 gallons of water daily.
