Merck and Moderna Announce Positive Late-Stage Trial Results for mRNA Cancer Vaccine in Melanoma
Merck and Moderna have announced successful late-stage clinical trial results for their personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, intismeran, when combined with Merck’s Keytruda. The trial focused on adjuvant melanoma, where patients had their disease surgically removed. The drugmakers reported that the combination treatment significantly slowed the recurrence of melanoma and its spread to other parts of the body. This marks the first randomized Phase 3 clinical trial to definitively prove the benefit of neoantigen vaccines in cancer treatment. While detailed data has not yet been released, the preliminary findings suggest a promising new approach in oncology. The vaccine utilizes mRNA technology, which has also been instrumental in developing traditional vaccines and therapeutics.
