Massachusetts Utilities to Increase Electricity Supply Rates Amid Market Conditions
Starting August 1, Massachusetts electric customers will experience an increase in electricity supply rates as utilities like Eversource and National Grid adjust their prices. Eversource's basic service rate will rise from 15.6 cents to 17.3 cents per kilowatt-hour, while National Grid's variable pricing option will increase from 15.546 cents to 16.074 cents per kilowatt-hour. The rate hikes are attributed to market conditions, including increased demand for natural gas due to a cold winter and international instability affecting energy markets. Despite the increase, only about 26.6% of Massachusetts electric customers on basic service will be directly affected, as many have shifted to municipal aggregation or competitive suppliers.
