Agentic Bot Traffic Dominates Web Activity, Challenges Traditional Defenses
Agentic bot traffic, driven by AI agents capable of autonomous decision-making, now accounts for over half of all web activity. These bots are more sophisticated than traditional scrapers, as they can adapt, reason, and mimic human behavior, making them difficult to detect and block. Traditional defenses like CAPTCHAs and simple rate limits are ineffective against these advanced systems. A layered defense strategy, incorporating tools like Cloudflare Turnstile, honeypots, and server-side rate limiting, is recommended to protect web applications. The rise of agentic bots poses significant challenges for web security, as they can target weak endpoints, evade detection, and perform complex tasks autonomously.
