SoftBank Announces Major Investment in AI Data Centers in France, Boosting European AI Infrastructure
SoftBank Group has announced a significant investment of 75 billion euros (approximately 14 trillion yen) to construct a 5GW AI data center in France. This initiative represents the largest investment in AI infrastructure in Europe to date. The initial phase involves investing 45 billion euros to develop 3.1 GW AI data centers in Dunkirk, Bosquer, and Bouchan in the Hauts-de-France region by 2031. Additional sites are planned across France, with the total investment expected to reach 75 billion euros. The project includes a partnership with Schneider Electric to develop a large-scale industrial cluster at the port of Dunkirk. This investment aligns with France's strategic goals to become a leading hub for AI infrastructure, supported by its robust industrial base and skilled workforce.
