May 2026 brings a rich lineup of celestial events for skywatchers. The month begins with the Flower Moon on May 1, appearing as a micromoon—slightly smaller and dimmer due to its distance from Earth. The Eta Aquariids meteor shower peaks May 5–6, offering fast streaking meteors before dawn. A super new moon on May 16 will be invisible but marks a closer lunar pass. The month ends with a rare Blue Moon on May 31, also a micromoon, making May a standout for night sky events.
