Consumer Reports Warns of Over 400 Exploding Oven Glass Doors in the U.S., Causing Injuries
A consumer rights organization has issued a safety alert following more than 400 incidents of exploding glass doors on electric and gas ovens in the United States. These incidents, reported to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) over a 15-month period, have resulted in injuries to at least 40 individuals. The problem appears to affect a variety of oven models from multiple manufacturers, including Frigidaire, GE, Whirlpool, LG, and Samsung. The explosions have occurred in both used and recently used ovens, with the precise cause yet to be determined. According to Consumer Reports, the issue is often found in ovens that are four to six years old, typically beyond their warranty period. Electrolux, the parent company of Frigidaire, suggested that imperfections or damage to the tempered glass might be responsible for the explosions.
