Bihar Agriculture Minister Calls for Central Support to Boost Pulse Production
Bihar's Agriculture Minister, Ram Kripal Yadav, has called on the central government to provide a dedicated support package for pulse crops, tailored to the state's specific agricultural conditions. At a national pulse conference in Madhya Pradesh, Yadav emphasized the need for a national seed hub, cluster farming, and increased irrigation subsidies to enhance pulse production in Bihar. He also advocated for improved Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement, value addition incentives, and research grants to achieve self-reliance in pulse production within five years. Yadav's demands include the establishment of a national-level seed hub in Bihar with full central assistance, ensuring farmers receive high-yielding, disease-resistant seeds. He also proposed a cluster-based farming model with integrated support for irrigation, seed, machinery, and training, along with up to 90% central subsidy for irrigation systems in pulse areas.
