Financial Action Task Force Launches Consultation on Revised Payment Transparency Standards
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has initiated a consultation on draft implementation guidance for its revised Recommendation 16, which focuses on payment transparency. This revision, known as the 'Travel Rule', aims to address challenges in detecting and preventing financial crime by improving data consistency and transparency in cross-border payments. The Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) has responded positively to the guidance, emphasizing the importance of the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) in enhancing payment transparency. The revised standards are part of a broader effort to align with the G20 roadmap for more efficient cross-border payments. Countries are expected to implement these changes by 2030, and the FATF is seeking feedback from industry stakeholders to ensure effective adoption.
