President Trump Proposes Massive Parking Garage at Dulles International Airport
President Trump has announced plans to construct a massive parking garage at Dulles International Airport as part of a $22.5 billion renovation project. The proposed garage would accommodate 32,000 cars, making it the largest in the world. This plan has raised concerns among parking experts due to its unprecedented scale and potential challenges in construction and operation. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) had previously planned a smaller, three-story parking deck to be built between 2031 and 2034, which would fit 6,400 cars. The new proposal by President Trump would significantly exceed the current parking capacity needs as outlined in the Dulles Master Plan, which anticipates sufficient parking until at least 2045. The cost of the proposed garage could exceed $900 million, based on estimates from the UCLA Institute of Transportation Studies.
