Newly Identified St. Augustine Sermons Offer Fresh Insights
Researchers have identified and authenticated two previously unknown sermons by St. Augustine, found in a medieval manuscript in Poland. These sermons explore the biblical story of King Saul's consultation with the medium of Endor, a complex theological issue. The discovery was made by Paul Alexander Nebauer and Christian Tornau, who, along with a team, confirmed the sermons' authenticity after extensive philological research. The sermons suggest that Saul may have repented and received God's mercy, a novel interpretation in Augustinian scholarship.
