Hiker Survives Impalement by Trekking Pole on Montana's Granite Peak
David Cifaldi, a hiker on Montana’s Granite Peak, experienced a life-threatening accident when he slipped and was impaled by his trekking pole. Remarkably, the pole missed all major organs, allowing him to avoid immediate life-threatening injuries. Despite the severity of the incident, Cifaldi chose not to call for a helicopter rescue. Instead, he demonstrated remarkable resilience and resourcefulness by hiking 10 miles down the mountain on foot. As a wound care nurse, Cifaldi was able to assess and manage his injury throughout the ordeal, showcasing his professional skills in a critical situation.
