Acton Institute's Emerging Leaders Program Explores Economic Systems for Human Flourishing
The Acton Institute recently concluded its Emerging Leaders Program, an eight-week summer initiative that brought together 16 students from various countries to examine which economic system best promotes human flourishing. The program featured seminars on freedom, virtue, social responsibility, and the free market. Participants engaged with prominent figures such as businessmen like Hank Meijer, scholars like Ken Elzinga, and C-suite executives from major companies including Haworth and Gordon Food Service. A key component of the program was Acton University, a week-long conference attended by over 900 individuals from 80 nations. During this conference, participants shared diverse perspectives, including firsthand accounts of the challenges of socialism from those living under such systems. Elijah Suwyn, a participant, noted that the United States, with its foundation in the rule of law, private property rights, and the intrinsic dignity of each human being, has uniquely fostered human flourishing.
