South African President Ramaphosa Urges Stronger Economic Ties and Balanced Trade with Zimbabwe
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for enhanced economic cooperation with Zimbabwe, highlighting a significant trade imbalance between the two nations. Speaking at the fourth session of the South Africa-Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Pretoria, President Ramaphosa noted that bilateral trade has nearly doubled over the past four years, yet South Africa exports considerably more to Zimbabwe than it imports. He emphasized the need to narrow this deficit through instruments like the Memorandum of Understanding on Economic Cooperation and by leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area. President Ramaphosa also stressed the importance of expanding the production and export of goods manufactured from natural resources in both countries.
