University of Minnesota Among Thousands Hit by Cyberattack on Canvas Platform
The University of Minnesota is one of approximately 8,000 educational institutions affected by a cyberattack on the Canvas software platform. The attack, claimed by a group known as 'ShinyHunters,' threatens to release the personal data of nearly 300 million users unless a ransom is paid. Canvas, used for managing assignments and grades, was shut down following the breach. The attack coincides with the end of the academic year, impacting final exams and graduation preparations. While the hackers claim to have accessed sensitive information, the parent company, Instructure, reports no evidence of compromised passwords or financial data. Schools nationwide are alerting students and parents about the breach.
