Peace Circles Promote Self-Worth to Combat Violence in U.S. Communities
In the U.S., communities are grappling with violence stemming from systemic issues such as racism, sexism, and classism, which undermine self-esteem and self-worth. The Black Women for Positive Change organization, in collaboration with the Positive Change Foundation, has been promoting non-violence through initiatives like Peace Circles. These circles provide safe spaces for individuals to express themselves and resolve conflicts peacefully. An example includes a young boy who used a Peace Circle to mediate his parents' arguments, demonstrating the potential of these circles to de-escalate domestic tensions. The initiative aims to inspire individuals to recognize their self-worth and choose positive, non-violent paths.
